Say it ain't so Joe!

City council has asked staff to look into drive-thrus. Why? Because councillors like Shirley Eggleton and Dean Pappas say they're bad for the environment.
I get miffed when I see people heading into buildings for whatever reason while their vehicles sits outside with the engine running. What's up with that? Definitely bad for the environment. (are you listening Bill Juby?)
And early in the mornings, when you see those long, long line ups at coffee shops of people getting their wake-up java, all their engines idling - fans of our air get positively put out by that.
At lunch time the exhaust belching line-ups are outside the fast food joints.
Still, I admit, I've been in some of those lines. Not nearly every day, as I think it's faster to go inside and get my iced cappucino.
I love our environment. It means the world to me. But there are times when my human-ness takes over all reason and says I'm too tired to get my lazy butt out of my car but I need by caffeine and I need it now!!!!
And then there's the fan of the fast food drive-thru. People need their fries!
And who's going to be the one to tell them the party's over?
Who knows what kind of damage a long line up of grease and caffeine deprived lazy bums could do if they drive to the window only to find it closed!
Good luck Dean and Shirley!

Hey look I agree with you on a certain level. I can't understand why someone can't get out of their car and get a cup of coffee. I can't understand why someone would line up just to get a cup of coffee. I refer to them as "loser line ups".

But this whole concept of banning it outright. This is just another attempt to control us through the "Nanny State". Don't do this and don't do that. I have small children I go through the occasional drive thru. They aren't the root of evil in our society. Dean Pappas and Shirley Eggeton are idiots for suggesting that we get rid of them. Peterborough lags behind other communities as it is. Why don't we just drive more business out of the community? I would suggest a smarter move. How about telling fast food businesses to start tracking how many people go through their drive throughs? I am sure they already do. Then demand that they submit those numbers monthly. Depending on how much business they do will determine how many drive-thrus they must have. Why do they only have one? Not only would we provide better service but we wouldn't be stuck sitting in a line up and getting screwed around! Just like the banks screw us over on bank machines. Good for Mother Earth and good for business.

Just so you know I have re-insulated my house and even though it was -20c colder last year my bill was 7% less then the year before. I consider myself a tree hugger.

Note: Shirley Eggeton 2450 votes first place Northcrest Ward. Dean Pappas 1897 votes first place Town Ward. Alan Wilson 2872 votes 3rd place Monaghan Ward. Whats wrong with this picture!
